National educational campaign “Prevention of domestic violence”

October 7 2024
As part of the free nationwide educational campaign “Counteracting Domestic Violence” implemented in 2024 by the New Culture Institute Foundation, we would like to cite the results of research on the experience of violence by children and adolescents. (Dr. Magdalena Szafranek, “How to react to violence against children?”):
“As indicated by the results of the study “Diagnosis of violence against children in Poland 2023” conducted by the foundation Dajemy Dzieciom Siłę, the majority of children and teenagers (79%) have experienced violence or neglect at least once in their lives. The most common forms of violence reported by children and adolescents, in light of this research, were violence by peers (66%), violence by a close adult (32%) and sexual abuse without physical contact (26%). In addition, 23% of children and adolescents had been emotionally neglected, 20% had experienced parentification, and 14% had witnessed violence at home. Sexual abuse with physical contact was experienced by 8% of respondents, and the same number (8%) were physically neglected*. ”
Be attentive, respond to alarm signals, such as:
– any injuries (bruises, hematomas, abrasions),
– frequent complaints of abdominal pain,
– problems with concentration and with sleep,
– self-aggression,
– behaviors inappropriate for age.**
