International Human Rights Day

December 10 marks International Human Rights Day. It is a day dedicated to respect for human rights and freedoms, which are inalienable and apply to every individual regardless of race, color, religion, gender, language, political opinion, national or social origin, birth property or other status. It is a day when human beings especially celebrate their importance in the world. Unfortunately, despite so many opportunities to protect human rights in Poland, they are still repeatedly violated. The rights of women, children, young people, physically and mentally disabled people, HIV-positive people, national minorities, sexual minorities, religious minorities, refugees and many other social groups are violated. Examples of such violations include lack of access to information, education, labor and social assistance, dismissal from work, humiliation, unlawful detention in custody, denial of health services, beatings or even murder. In this regard, December 10 is a special day to spread awareness of respect for human rights. “It’s worth remembering that human rights are not given once and for all, and that in every generation they should be sought, talked about and claimed.”
