Debate “Fire Up Thinking – Don’t Get Into Addiction”

November 20 2024

On November 20, CIK psychologist Ms. Anna Izdebska took part in the debate “Fire off Thinking – don’t get into addiction” organized by the Queen Jadwiga Elementary School No. 21 in Lublin.

The debate was aimed at familiarizing students with the topic of addiction, especially in terms of the consequences of using psychoactive substances, as well as falling into behavioral addictions, such as Internet addiction.

Experts: a district police officer, a representative of the Sanitary Inspection Service, a representative of the Municipal Police Station in Lublin, a CIK psychologist, a legal counselor, a social probation officer and a family assistant spoke, presenting the topic of addictions from the angle of their fields of daily work. Very important topics were discussed, such as the legal consequences one may face in adulthood due to offenses committed in the past as a minor – such as not being able to work in jobs that require one to have a criminal record. The youngsters were also able to hear about what family support units do and who minors can go to for help. Kids were encouraged to never remain indifferent, even if the problem of addiction affects someone else – a colleague or family member. Let’s react! The earlier we start taking action, the easier it will be to get out of addiction!
The students prepared a presentation showing statistics compiled from surveys conducted among SP 21 students. The youngsters were eager to ask questions to the experts, the children were interested, among other things, in what visits to an addiction treatment center are like, whether there are more and less addictive substances, they could learn that there is no type or dose of psychoactive drug that is safe.
The students most involved in the debate received prizes.
Addiction is a broad and difficult topic, where the focus should be both on treating the consequences and on educational activities to reduce the likelihood of reaching for a particular stimulant for the first time.
Outlining the consequences not only for the addict, but also for his or her entire environment, loved ones and family, as well as pointing out healthy ways to spend time helps reduce the risk of young people falling into addiction.
Remember, if you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, we are waiting for your call. You are not alone with this!
If you suspect that your child has developed an addiction – don’t wait, ask for help – action is needed.
Only a conscious life is truly beautiful. Addiction takes us away from conscious experiencing.
