Illness can happen to any of us, and its consequences and the situation associated with it can be very difficult.
Regardless of whether we are dealing with a sudden loss of health, e.g. as a result of an accident, or a loss of health resulting from a chronic disease, we can find ourselves in a crisis situation, i.e. circumstances in which we experience a disruption of our previous mental balance. A person experiencing a health crisis may experience suffering related to the emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and social spheres. What does this mean? In emotional terms, fear related to the threat to life and health, fear of what the future will bring, may dominate. There may be sadness, regret, exhaustion, anger and many other emotions that can be overwhelming. Loss of health may be associated with a temporary or permanent inability to work and perform social roles, which sometimes translates into self-esteem, a sense of being needed, valuable. Sometimes you have to adapt to a new reality, and sometimes you just have to survive a temporary crisis. In both cases, it is worth seeking psychological support.
This type of help – support in crisis – is offered free of charge by the Crisis Intervention Center.
