Fortuitous events
Unexpected fortuitous events, especially when they are strongly emotionally tinged, can lead the person involved to a so-called situational crisis.
Such an event can be, for example, a natural disaster, a construction disaster, an accident, a rape.
The first reaction is most often disbelief, numbness – in this phase the person affected by the situational crisis may appear calm and composed. The second phase of the situational crisis is characterized by the fact that there is a need to confront reality – the person attempts to adapt to the new circumstances and experiences very strong feelings such as anger, fear, despair. The sense of security is severely disturbed.
In the next two phases of the situational crisis, the person tries to cope with the crisis situation despite the strong emotions still present. He is already able to develop a strategy of action using his own resources to cope with everyday life. In the last phase – the orientation phase – the person is already able to think about the difficult event as an element of the past and perceive it as a piece of life experience.
