How to support LGBT+ people?
LGBT+ people have the right to enjoy the same rights as other people: the right to freedom of speech, bodily integrity and the right to protection of personal rights. Sometimes, however, the situation in Poland indicates a lack of protection for the LGBT+ community against crimes and hate speech. Under Polish law, same-sex relationships are not recognized as a family, which consequently affects the lack of a number of rights related to the functioning of everyday life (they do not have the right to inheritance, burial of a partner, insurance of a partner by a partner, adoption or pension). LGBT+ people in our country often have to deal with insults, judgment, lack of acceptance, humiliation or social exclusion. What we can do is support LGBT+ people who need support and not be indifferent when we are aware that they are experiencing difficulties in connection with their orientation.
If you are struggling with a crisis and need support, you will find it at the Crisis Intervention Center.
